Feb 17, 2019 · According to the ESP8266 Low Power notice (attached) the only way to wake an ESP8266 through a GPIO interrupt is by using light sleep. Program below manages to bring current consumption down from about 150mA to 1.3mA. But wake up does not yet work. An interrupt on negative edge is attached to pin 2, yet no wake up. You can make the ESP8266 wake from deep sleep by just pulsing RST low briefly. Crudely you can just use your switch to connect it to GND perhaps with a pullup resistor to +v. If you want to be a bit more elegant you could use a small capacitor to smooth out the switch bounce so your code only restarts once. ESP32 is capable of light sleep and deep sleep power saving modes. In light sleep mode, digital peripherals, most of the RAM, and CPUs are clock-gated, and supply voltage is reduced. Upon exit from light sleep, peripherals and CPUs resume operation, their internal state is preserved.
