Hows do I fix the high surging idle on my 2000 chevy silverado? I know this sounds nuts but I just did this to my Granddaughters truck and it works. Turn the key off open the door for 90 seconds close the door turn the key on but do not start the truck, press the gas pedal to the floor three times and shut the key off and wait 10 or 15 seconds ...

Just for fun check to see if it only idles high when you have your foot on the brake or when you pump the brakes a couple times. You could have a leaky vacuum booster that causes a leak only when you apply the brakes
It could be your intake manifold gaskets are shot. This would alow for air to pass through your intake manifold where the intake meets the the rest of your engine causing a high idle how high of and idle depends how bad your gaskets are. Had the same issue I replace them (it was a pain in the ass) but it fixed the issue
Anyway, the item described above is the Idle Air Control, and it is a two-phase stepper motor, not a high idle solenoid. The CPFI system on your engine uses a single throttle body. The throttle plate in the body can become contaminated with environmental dust, oil vapors, and fuel vapors.
I have this 2008 express van that has a very high/surging idle when you come to a stop. The only DTC that is present is P0506- idle speed low. I have performed the following tests: Fuel pressure and ethanol content- normal. Blocked off PCV line- no change Unplugged front O2 sensors- no change Smoke tested intake- no leaks Checked Purge valve for leak- none. Inspected pcm connectors, fuse box…

Chevy high idle

I was having problems with HVAC vent selection and a high idle. I fixed it with a check valve. Dealer added the high idle switch option to my 2018 Sierra HD. Just asked service manager and he called GM for a reflash code. The did charge me $160 but it was the only option that the truck did not have that I wanted. It could be your intake manifold gaskets are shot. Had the same issue I replace them (it was a pain in the ass) but it fixed the issue The IAC motor itself may not be working properly. A short circuit in the motor can trigger high idle problems. Sometimes IAC motors develop high resistance in the circuitry, which slows the reactions of the IAC and can lead to idling problems. What do you mean high idle ? (what rpm), both answer's are correct. Your engine should idle high (1000 - 1200 rpm) until either the choke warms and shuts off the high idle cam on the carb or like stated you hit the pedal to reset the high idle cam. I am assuming your carb has an electric choke. Start engine & see if it still idles high. If it does than you have a vaccuum leak behind the throttle plate. To dummy down the bold section, you are looking for any type of leak, be it a vaccuum hose, intake gasket, leaking injector seal @ manifold, or fuel pressure regulator. If it does not idle, you are looking for a problem with IAc. High idle blamed on IAC (idle control motor). (It appears that when the car idle fine nothing is even sending questionable data to the PCM). (It appears that when the car is idling high, nothing points to a specific sensor/control) Dealer added the high idle switch option to my 2018 Sierra HD. High idle is most likely going to be a vacuum leak, whether due to something actually leaking (base gasket, hose, etc.) or a "controlled" leak a.k.a. the IAC. Nov 25, 2012 · ^^ +1 to disconnecting the battery. I had the same issue. Cleaned the throttle body and had high idle after. I didn't run mine without the intake though, didn't want to upset the fuel/air ratio by bypassing the MAF. So my idle was somewhere between 1000-1500 rpms. I unplugged the battery for a few hours and it dropped to around 800-900. What do you mean high idle ? (what rpm), both answer's are correct. My son's truck's history is that the truck( '01 4.3 s10 ext cab 5 speed) is new to us about a week, engine light was on and had two codes of the same # for the secondary air injection pump. this happens on my '98 4.3 s10 4x4 auto truck, so I don't think it has anything to do with it, but i could be wrong doesn't appear to be throttle linkage, we change oil, air filter and will do fuel filter ...
